Hi there, thanks for visiting my journal! My name is Jaap Ruurd Feitsma. Currently I’m a third year student of the bachelor course ‘Communication and Multimedia Design’ (CMD) at the NHL University of applied sciences in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. I also studied Cinema & Television in Eskisehir, Turkey. I’m planning on entering the ‘Film Production’ Programme at the Vancouver Film School after graduation at CMD.
Over the years I developped myself into a professional photographer. But besides photography I also have a passion for filmmaking and music. Short films, video productions and music compositions (usually used in my video productions) will be visible here as well.
On this blog you can also stay up to date with all my travels – in and out of the Netherlands and work of others that truly inspires me. Also, keep checking my official portfolio here for the latest updates.

We spoke briefly on Distant shore. I live in the US. Like your photos. Ironically I’m in the process of taking classes myself. You weren’t kidding about traveling. You have a good eye. I was expecting more pictures of Holland.

hello jaap,
i beleive i am a different debbie than you think. I am debbie feitsma -kubinciak living in the in the USA and was searching for Feitsma folks and came across your name on the web. I did not think there were any Feitsma’s left after WWll as most were exterminated by the Germans in concentration camps, I thought he was the only remiaing relative other than an uncle or so I thought. I do not know if we are perhaps distant relatives or not but would like to know. I was born in Amsterdam, Holland and my parents immigrated to the USA.
My grandparents lived in Holland and my family visited often and i continue to go to go back home to Holland. I have a n older sister named Trudi. Hope to hear from you. Debbie

Hi Debbie Feitsma,
Sorry for my late response! Been a bit busy lately. I know our Feitsma family is far from gone, and I’m sure there are more. We have family in more parts of the world such as Canada and Africal. Originally we are from Sneek and I was born in Heerenveen in 1984. But if we are distant relatives, I do not know. What are your grandparents names? Hope hearing from you soon.
kind regards,
jr

hello Jaap,
The world can be so large and then in an instant so small., but I can see that you can appreciate cultures for how they can grow on you as I did living in Holland during my teenage years. Coming from New York and then living in in the town of Meppel where my grandmother and mother were born was a nightmare and awakening at the same time. I grew to embrace my heritage and love my extended family as my daughter does today. My father’s name was Seigfried Phillip Feitsma and lost most of his family during the war. Of course there is always more to a story. Please keep in touch. I live in Massachusetes, USA now but go back to Holland yearly. Fondly, Debbie
